Designing the looks

The knit-lab

“I spent the majority of my last semester in the knit lab. It was all I could think about. It was also so new to me, like discovering an entirely different craft, a whole new world of technique and possibility. I became so obsessed with knitting on a machine that, as soon as school finished, I bought a domestic knitting machine for my home studio. Knitting expanded my design universe so much, for the sheer fact that it is so intentional, which is one of my main values. I just find it fascinating that you can calculate and knit exactly the shape and size you need, with no yarn waste.”

Patternmaking

“The other big part of the process was transforming the in-scale cutting schemes into real-size pattern pieces, projecting them to the actual fabric, cutting everything precisely, preserving all the scraps, working inside the slim margins of error. This process taught me patience and precision. ”
